Gemiddeld wordt een wilde eend vijftien jaar oud.Het voedsel bestaat uit een rijk palet aan plantaardig voedsel, in de zomermaanden voornamelijk zaden (van kroos), in de wintermaanden wortels (van), grassen en mossen, allerlei soorten kleine visjes, slakken en wormen.

Merel.

(Turdus merula)

De korteafstandsvlucht van de merel is meestal laag, onstuimig en snel. Over langere afstand vliegt de merel op een golvende wijze met korte series vleugelslagen. Bij de landing wipt hun staart eventjes omhoog. Hoe feller oranje de snavel van het mannetje, hoe meer hij in trek valt bij het wijfje.

De merel eet vooral regenwormen en slakken. Die slakken stelen ze vaak van de zanglijster, omdat ze er zelf niet in slagen een slakkenhuis open te breken. Ze hebben een territorium dat door het mannetje vinnig wordt verdedigd tegen soortgenoten en kleinere vogels.

Das

(Meles meles)

Overdag verblijft de das in een netwerk van ondergrondse tunnels. De burcht. Burchten worden van generatie op generatie doorgegeven en kunnen eeuwenoud worden. De das is een nachtdier en schuifelt met zijn neus aan de grond in zijn territorium rond, op zoek naar langzaam bewegende prooien en plantaardig voedsel.

Dassen leven in groep samen, maar gaan afzonderlijk op zoek naar voedsel. Het sociale leven beperkt zich tot de burchtsite.

Dassen kunnen tot 16 jaar oud worden, het verkeer is echter een grote bedreiging en ze halen die leeftijd dan ook zelden.

Pimpelmees.

Pimpelmezen zien elkaar anders dan wij ze zien. Zangvogels kunnen uv-licht waarnemen wat een extra kleurenpalet tevoorschijn tovert. Pimpelmezen kunnen trucjes leren om aan voedsel te komen.

De levensverwachting van een pimpelmees is ongeveer drie jaar, maar de oudst pimpelmees werd 19 jaar.
Uit DNA-onderzoek op jongen uit 36 nesten bleek dat alle nestmoeders ook de biologische moeders waren. Dat kon van de vader niet gezegd worden. In 11 van de 36 nesten stelde men vast dat niet alle jongen dezelfde vader hadden. De vreemde vaders bleken voor 80% pimpelmezen uit de onmiddellijke omgeving. In alle gevallen namen de vrouwtjes het initiatief tot de buitenechtelijke paringen.

Egel.

(Erinaceus europaeus)

Volgens het bijgeloof stelen egels appels op hun rug en zuigen ze melk uit de uiers van koeien. Bewijs hiervoor is beperkt. Egels kunnen tot acht jaar oud worden, maar het verkeer en robotgrasmaaiers eisen een zware tol. Een egel eet tot 40 slakken per nacht. Tijdens de winterslaap verliezen egels 40% van hun lichaamsgewicht. Hun lichaamstemperatuur daalt dan van 36 °C naar +-3 °C, hun hartslag vertraagt van 190 naar 20 slagen per minuut en ze ademen een ker per 2 tot 3 minuten. Egels slapen van oktober-november tot maart-april.

Eekhoorn.

De eekhoorn voedt zich met noten en zaden. Verder eet hij knoppen, paddenstoelen, stukken boomschors, insecten, eieren en soms zelfs jonge vogels. Hij eet ook aarde om mineralen binnen te krijgen. Net als veel andere knaagdieren leggen eekhoorns wintervoorraden aan. Tijdens een sprong spreiden eekhoorns hun poten. Hun losse huid helpt hen zweven terwijl ze sturen met hun pluimstaart. De eekhoorn is ook een goede zwemmer. Eekhoorns worden 3 tot 7 jaar in het wild, tot tien jaar in gevangenschap. Om aan zijn vijanden te ontkomen rent de eekhoorn spiraalsgewijs omhoog tegen een boom.

Merel.

(Turdus merula)

De korteafstandsvlucht van de merel is meestal laag, onstuimig en snel. Over langere afstand vliegt de merel op een golvende wijze met korte series vleugelslagen. Bij de landing wipt hun staart eventjes omhoog. Hoe feller oranje de snavel van het mannetje, hoe meer hij in trek valt bij het wijfje.

De merel eet vooral regenwormen en slakken. Die slakken stelen ze vaak van de zanglijster, omdat ze er zelf niet in slagen een slakkenhuis open te breken. Ze hebben een territorium dat door het mannetje vinnig wordt verdedigd tegen soortgenoten en kleinere vogels.

Das

(Meles meles)

Overdag verblijft de das in een netwerk van ondergrondse tunnels. De burcht. Burchten worden van generatie op generatie doorgegeven en kunnen eeuwenoud worden. De das is een nachtdier en schuifelt met zijn neus aan de grond in zijn territorium rond, op zoek naar langzaam bewegende prooien en plantaardig voedsel.

Dassen leven in groep samen, maar gaan afzonderlijk op zoek naar voedsel. Het sociale leven beperkt zich tot de burchtsite.

Dassen kunnen tot 16 jaar oud worden, het verkeer is echter een grote bedreiging en ze halen die leeftijd dan ook zelden.

Pimpelmees.

Pimpelmezen zien elkaar anders dan wij ze zien. Zangvogels kunnen uv-licht waarnemen wat een extra kleurenpalet tevoorschijn tovert. Pimpelmezen kunnen trucjes leren om aan voedsel te komen.

De levensverwachting van een pimpelmees is ongeveer drie jaar, maar de oudst pimpelmees werd 19 jaar.
Uit DNA-onderzoek op jongen uit 36 nesten bleek dat alle nestmoeders ook de biologische moeders waren. Dat kon van de vader niet gezegd worden. In 11 van de 36 nesten stelde men vast dat niet alle jongen dezelfde vader hadden. De vreemde vaders bleken voor 80% pimpelmezen uit de onmiddellijke omgeving. In alle gevallen namen de vrouwtjes het initiatief tot de buitenechtelijke paringen.

Egel.

(Erinaceus europaeus)

Volgens het bijgeloof stelen egels appels op hun rug en zuigen ze melk uit de uiers van koeien. Bewijs hiervoor is beperkt. Egels kunnen tot acht jaar oud worden, maar het verkeer en robotgrasmaaiers eisen een zware tol. Een egel eet tot 40 slakken per nacht. Tijdens de winterslaap verliezen egels 40% van hun lichaamsgewicht. Hun lichaamstemperatuur daalt dan van 36 °C naar +-3 °C, hun hartslag vertraagt van 190 naar 20 slagen per minuut en ze ademen een ker per 2 tot 3 minuten. Egels slapen van oktober-november tot maart-april.

Eekhoorn.

De eekhoorn voedt zich met noten en zaden. Verder eet hij knoppen, paddenstoelen, stukken boomschors, insecten, eieren en soms zelfs jonge vogels. Hij eet ook aarde om mineralen binnen te krijgen. Net als veel andere knaagdieren leggen eekhoorns wintervoorraden aan. Tijdens een sprong spreiden eekhoorns hun poten. Hun losse huid helpt hen zweven terwijl ze sturen met hun pluimstaart. De eekhoorn is ook een goede zwemmer. Eekhoorns worden 3 tot 7 jaar in het wild, tot tien jaar in gevangenschap. Om aan zijn vijanden te ontkomen rent de eekhoorn spiraalsgewijs omhoog tegen een boom.
